Terrified familiy is forced to flee home
The Sayles family claim they underwent a terrifying ordeal when their house was “taken over by spirits”. Lynn Sayles (36), her husband Dave (34) and their two children were scratched while objects moved on their own. The nightmare lasted until they moved from their Grimsby house in April - and their story was recently screened on the UK Living paranormal TV series Living With The Dead.
Mrs Sayles told the Telegraph the strange happenings began when she was watching another UK Living series, Most Haunted Live, on May 6 two years ago. The show was asking for viewers to take part in a variation of the Ouija board and Mrs Sayles (36) did just that. She said: “I wondered how it all worked and all of a sudden I got a pen and paper and started writing a story. “Somehow my mind had opened up a bad spirit that was releasing these psychic thoughts.

Hasbro & Universal to make board game-based movies
Board games might seem like a wet Sunday afternoon kinda thing, but Hollywood is hoping there is some movie mileage in a crossover between films and the family favourites.
Toy company Hasbro has peddled traditional movie tie-in toys for years, with Transformers, Spider-Man and Star Wars providing big pay-days. But it’s looking for a new direction and wants films to copy games, rather than the other way round. Working with Universal, Hasbro has already lined up big screen versions of Candy Land and Ouija

Real ghost hunting - not that fake stuff on TV
VANCOUVER — Four lessons to discriminate fake from real:
Lesson No. 1: Don't believe what you see on TV. Ghost hunting is boring. There is no traipsing loudly through cemeteries. No spooky séances. No startling at every sound.
Lesson No. 2: Ninety-eight per cent of things that go bump in the night can be fixed with a hammer or a screwdriver.
Lesson No. 3: Never go alone on a ghost hunt.
Lesson No. 4: Ghost hunting is passive.

What is the ouija board?
The Ouija board does not have a straightforward history, there are several varied hypotheses.
A Ouija board consists of a flat surface printed with letters, numbers, and other symbols, to which a planchette or movable indicator points.
A tiny three legged heart-shaped device rests on the board, which moves smoothly over the board's surface. The fingers of 2 participants are placed on the planchette that then moves about the board, purportedly on its own power, to spell out messages.
The Ouija board has two arced rows of letters, one above the other. The upper row goes from A to M, and the lower row runs from N to Z. Under these is a row with numbers One through Zero. On the upper left of the board is the word Yes, and at the upper right, the word No. Close to the bottom of the board is Goodbye.

Is the ouija board dangerous?
Most paranormal researchers advise against the casual use of the Ouija board, suggesting that it can be a doorway to unknown dimensions.
“The board itself is not dangerous, but the form of communication that you are attempting often is," says Ghost researcher Dale Kaczmarek of the Ghost Research Society. "Most often the spirits whom are contacted through the Ouija are those whom reside on 'the lower astral plane.' These spirits are often very confused and may have died a violent or sudden death; murder, suicide, etc. Therefore, many violent, negative and potentially dangerous conditions are present to those using the board.

Ouija Board Origins
The history of the Ouija board isn't straightforward, there are various different theories.
The basic concepts behind the Ouija Board - a "talking board" for psychics or spiritualists - have been around for many centuries. However the first modern Ouija Boards came into being on the back of the spiritualism boom of the late nineteenth century.
Many mediums during that period undertook "automatic writing" whereby a message was written down by them, purportedly under the direction of a spirit. More about: The Planchette & Who invented the Ouija Board?

The ouija debate
There is an ongoing debate about the powers and realities of the Ouija board. Essentially, there are three basic positions:
Ouija is inherently dangerous, can open portals to evil entities and should never be used.
Ouija is only dangerous if used with evil intent, but can be a useful tool for spirit mediumship if used properly and with good intent.
Ouija is inherently harmless and has no real powers of mediumship for good or evil; its effects, if any, are only psychological in nature.
Which is true? Talk to any group of people and you’ll find strong proponents for each argument.

Local ghost hunters seek answers
The meeting room at the back of the Gander Mountain outdoor outfitter store on the Eastex Freeway was crowded on a recent Saturday afternoon for a meeting of the Texas Society of Paranormal Investigators. The group, formed with the aid of an online meet-up site, began in early 2008 and is dedicated to the scientific investigation of things that go bump in the night – the world of spirits, hauntings and unexplained phenomena.
One curious standard says, "We do not consider Ouija boards, dowsing rods, crystals or séances valid investigation tools."
If you're thinking that a Ouija board, marketed for years as a parlor game by Parker Brothers, is too trivial for a serious group, think again. For paranormal investigators, it is a serious matter.
"I will tell everybody flat out, if I find out you've been playing with one or that's what you're into – (you're) gone," said Dennis when asked about Ouija boards. "The reason being that you have no control – if they actually do work – usually when you have some type of demonic activity, you can trace it back to somewhere in that time a séance or Ouija board was brought into play. That's why I don't play with them."

'Batman works in the shadows ... I'm the white knight'
Two days before the low-key release of an unassuming little movie called The Dark Knight, and it's all happening at London's Dorchester hotel.
Or rather it was - this is where Batman himself, Christian Bale, allegedly assaulted his mother and sister on Sunday, leading to the man in black being quizzed by the boys in blue when he was supposed to have been interviewed instead by journalists.
When one of your co-stars is in custody, and the other is only contactable by ouija board, who you gonna call to publicise The Dark Knight? Aaron Eckhart steps up.
